Brunei Wins 14 Medals at MBW International Taekwondo Championship 2026

Brunei Darussalam’s taekwondo team won 14 medals at the MBW International Championship 2026, held in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, from July 31 to August 2.

The Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association (BDTA) sent a delegation of 21 athletes, led by Vice President and Head National Coach Master Nikman Waie. The team was also accompanied by National Poomsae Coach Habibah Mutiara and Kyorugi Coach Azka Ibrahim.

Brunei competed in both Kyorugi (sparring) and Poomsae (recognised forms), finishing the tournament with five gold, one silver and eight bronze medals.

In the Poomsae events, Brunei won four gold, one silver and four bronze medals, while the Kyorugi team added one gold and four bronze medals.

Master Nikman Waie praised the athletes for their performance, saying they showed determination, resilience and sportsmanship against strong international opponents. He said the results reflected the continued progress of taekwondo in Brunei and the commitment of the athletes, coaches and support staff to prepare for future international competitions.

The championship attracted about 4,000 athletes from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Pakistan, India and the Philippines, making it one of the region’s largest taekwondo tournaments.

The BDTA also thanked the Department of Youth and Sports for its continued support in developing taekwondo in Brunei. The association said the support has helped provide opportunities for athletes to compete internationally, gain experience and strengthen Brunei’s presence in the international taekwondo community.
