A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck waters off Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan on Saturday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Xinhua reported.
The earthquake occurred at 11.48am local time off Aomori’s Pacific coast at a depth of 80 kilometres.
The JMA said the tremor registered Level 4 on Japan’s seven-level seismic intensity scale.
The earthquake’s epicentre was located at 41.3 degrees north latitude and 142.0 degrees east longitude.
