Netherlands Top Group F After 3-1 Win Over Tunisia

The Netherlands advanced to the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 as Group F winners after defeating Tunisia 3-1 on Friday, avoiding a potentially difficult clash with Brazil in the knockout stage.

Ronald Koeman’s side made a flying start, racing into a two-goal lead after capitalising on defensive lapses by Tunisia.

The opening goal came as early as the third minute when Tunisia’s Ellyes Skhiri inadvertently turned Denzel Dumfries’ cross into his own net. Brian Brobbey doubled the advantage minutes later with a close-range finish.

Tunisia pulled a goal back in the second half through Hazem Mastouri, who headed home from Hannibal Mejbri’s corner to reduce the deficit.

However, the Netherlands restored their two-goal cushion just after the hour mark when Jan Paul van Hecke headed in the third goal to seal the victory.

The Dutch finished top of Group F with seven points, edging Japan to first place, and will face Morocco in the Round of 32 in Monterrey next Monday.

Japan secured second place after drawing 1-1 with Sweden in Arlington, Texas, while Sweden also progressed as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.

Tunisia endured a disappointing campaign, conceding 12 goals in three group-stage matches and failing to recover throughout the competition.
