Mexico Thrash Czech Republic 3-0 to Top Group A

Mexico confirmed their status as Group A champions with a perfect record after cruising to a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic at Mexico City Stadium earlier today.

The win secured Mexico’s place in the Round of 32, with the hosts set to return to the same venue on June 30. Meanwhile, the Czech Republic were eliminated after finishing bottom of the group standings.

Mateo Chavez broke the deadlock for Mexico in the 55th minute before Julian Quinones capitalised on defensive lapses to double the advantage six minutes later.

Alvaro Fidalgo capped a dominant display by the hosts with a third goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Mexico also introduced veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa as a second-half substitute, allowing the 40-year-old to feature in a World Cup finals tournament for a sixth time.
