A woman was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of an Indonesian woman at a condominium in Bandar Sunsuria earlier this month.
The accused, Chin Siau Lan, 44, was alleged to have murdered Puteri at a unit in The Olive Condominium, Bandar Sunsuria, at about 2.31pm on June 3.
Siau Lan, who is self-employed, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years. Offenders who are not sentenced to death are also liable to receive no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.
The accused indicated that she understood the charge. However, no plea was recorded.
Deputy Public Prosecutor V Luvithaa requested a mention date for the submission of case-related documents.
“No bail is recommended for the accused as this is a non-bailable offence,” she told the court.
Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani subsequently fixed July 21 for case mention.
The accused was represented by counsel V Ayasamy.
