Two Indian nationals were seriously injured after being trapped in the wreckage of a lift that collapsed from the seventh floor of a hotel during maintenance work earlier today.
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department director Mohd Zaidi Ma’at said his department received an emergency call at 11.55am and immediately deployed eight firefighters along with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit to the scene.
Upon arrival at about 12pm, the operations team found two victims trapped beneath the collapsed lift, which had fallen from the seventh floor of the building.
Firefighters carried out rescue operations and managed to free both victims within approximately one hour.
The victims, both aged 27, were later handed over to Health Ministry personnel before being transported to hospital for further treatment.
Mohd Zaidi said the rescue operation was fully concluded at 1.02pm, adding that the cause of the incident and the extent of the victims’ injuries are still under investigation.
