Schools Must Not Wait for Cases to Go Viral Before Acting on Sexual Misconduct, Says Education Minister.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has urged school administrators, State Education Departments (JPN) and District Education Offices (PPD) to take immediate action on sexual misconduct complaints without waiting for cases to go viral on social media.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry’s response to previous cases was based on prompt reports received through official channels, not social media attention.

She stressed that all complaints involving students must be reported to the relevant authorities and thoroughly investigated to ensure victims receive the necessary protection and support.

Fadhlina also advised the public to report sexual harassment cases directly to authorities rather than relying on social media, saying official reports are more effective in triggering investigations and safeguarding victims.

She reiterated that schools must remain safe spaces for students and that the ministry will not compromise on any form of misconduct.
