A 19-year-old man arrested in connection with a street racing accident in Simpang Renggam, Kluang, which claimed five lives on June 1, has been released on police bail.

Kluang District Police Chief, Superintendent Bahrin Mohd Noh, said the suspect was released after his remand period expired, following instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor.

The teenager was initially detained under suspicion of dangerous driving before being rearrested and investigated under a murder charge.

According to earlier investigations, the suspect and his brother were allegedly involved in street racing, with one of the vehicles, a BMW, believed to have been driven against traffic, causing the fatal crash.

The incident resulted in the deaths of five people, including four members of the same family.
